The population in the area (including Valera, Carvajal, Motatán, Escuque, Mendoza and La Puerta), was about 190,000, with a forecast of approximately 260,000 in the year 2015.
Work included the following:
• Evaluation of the existing collector networks in Valera and Carvajal, including assessment of their conveyance capacity
• Identification of alternative sites for location of the treatment plant
• Determination of treatment processes according to the method of disposal of the effluents and their destination
• Stage 1 comprised conveyance of the wastewater discharges to Río Motatán and Río Escuque via two main collectors: Motatán, 24" to 36" dia., and 8 km long; and Escuque, 20" to 24" dia. and 6 km long.
• Stage 2 included extension of the Motatán collector up to the treatment plant by means of a 15 km long pipe of 36" to 42" dia.; construction of a treatment plant based on anaerobic and facultative ponds at the confluence of Río Motatán and Río Jimenez rivers, and handling wastewater from the Trujillo area in addition to that from Valera; and completion of the secondary network and Momboy collectors.
• Stage 3 comprised expansion of treatment plant capacity and conversion of the facultative ponds into aerobic ponds. |
